The Algarve is hilly, but traversed with wealthy valleys. Its optimum level is the mountain range of Monchique, with a highest altitude of 906m (Peak of the Fóia). It is composed of 5,412 sq. kilometres with around 410,000 lasting inhabitants (density of 76 inhabitants per sq. kilometre). This figure raises to about a million persons at the top of summer time due to an inflow of visitors. The Algarve has a number of towns, towns and villages. It also incorporates some islands and islets. The region is also the residence of the Ria Formosa lagoon, a nature reserve of about one hundred seventy sq. kilometres and a halting place for hundreds of unique birds.
The region’s funds is the metropolis of Faro. Other towns are Albufeira, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Olhão, Portimão, Quarteira, Silves, Tavira, and Vila True de Santo António.
The duration of the south-facing shoreline is around a hundred and fifty five kilometres. Outside of the westernmost level of Cape St. Vincent it stretches a even more 50 kilometres to the north. The shoreline is noteworthy for picturesque limestone caves and grottoes, specifically all-around Lagos, which are available by powerboat.
