2018! Time to reset or start the year. Inspired at the start of the year with the vision of unprecedented success. We are inspired to occupy the throne of the one who endures to the end, to have that which life promises.
But the “having” follows the “doing.” And most stop well short of having anything. Why?
They did not know what to expect on the way.
Whether starting a new business, a relationship, marriage, raising a family: knowing what to expect along the way becomes essential to endure to the end, and ultimatley to the ‘having.”
I am a runner. What I have come to know in regards to running is what happens along the way of EVERY run that wants to make me stop.
At the very start the knees hurt and legs weigh 500 lbs each! I’m too old for this, I tell myself…but keep going anyway.
At 3 miles my body is warmed up and ready to go, I’m not too old, the knees and legs silenced….It is  great to be alive! Not a time to rest and slumber so,  I keep going.
At 6 miles I get the side stitches. Oh crap, I really want to stop. This is not supposed to hurt! Why am I doing this? I control my exhale, push through the pain and I keep going anyway.
At 8 miles my heart is pounding out of my chest. It’s supposed to get easier. I don’t want to do this every time I run, but I know my body is lying to me and I keep going anyway.
At 12 miles my knees re-announce they are done with this! I push through the roaring noise, and I keep going anyway.
At 17 miles I’m starting to believe I can finish this. Then the cramps begin in the calves. The wrinkle in my sock feels like a thorn in my Saucony shoes. Every little thing become a cacophany of noise to keep me distracted…to convince me to quit…but I keep going anyway.
At 20 miles, I’m spent. Nothing to fuel the legs. All I can do is think only of the next foot placement. I contemptuously ask myself, “Are you having fun yet??  I need to stop. There’s noting left in the tank. And I keep going anyway.
3 miles to go! My form has disintegrated. I am in great peril of  injury. This isn’t fun anymore. “Go ahead, walk. No one can see you!” the temptation rattles about in my mind. But I keep going anyway.
Then I hear them. ‘Finish big Annette!” they shout along the way. “Almost there. Great job!”  ‘You are awesome! Keep going!” they shout.  Then someone with courage shouts, ‘Pass someone and finish BIG!”  Then I realize, “I’m not done yet!” And now I keep going.
And from the fuel of ‘nothing’ the legs reach further, the toes kick a little harder, head lifts taller, and the finish line disappears behind me because I kept going. ANYWAY.
Look at your life.
Take account of your ‘anyways.’
You DO NOT raise a family, sustain a marriage, start a career, get a degree, lose substantial weight, face your fears without overcoming. Without knowing your greater purpose that powers YOU to prevail over whatever crosses your path, YOU just keep going anyway.  You won!
You did it! Not someone else.
Find your voice. Tell your story. Because that is the story the Universe needs to hear. Your over-comers story has prepared you for such a time as this!
And here in the real estate business, it is the steady and sure that endure to the end, not the fleet and flighty. But you need to know what to expect along the way. Then when the speed bumps arrive. you keep going. When you encounter a failure, you know that is not defeat…you learn and keep going anyway.
When you fear the devouring lion waits around the bend, you learn to pull its claws, learn to defang the beast and ignore the roar because you see the beast can not harm you and holds no power over you…and you keep going anyway.
Within you already exists the strength to keep going anyway.
But you do need a plan. I don’t run without knowing where I’m going. It is also a good idea to start a business with a map. Your real estate agent business plan is your map. The map outlines the way to your “having” and alerts you to what you must “DO” to make it a reality. Without a map, one hardly knows they are lost.
Every athlete will share one little tidbit that is the secret.
Runners don’t run to the finish line, they run to the next challenge.
Ball players don’t focus on the score but on their execution of the next play.
As business owners the challenge is to focus on execution. It is in the doing that the having becomes inevitable.
Success is always earned & never given.
2018. Make it your year to “Keep going anyway!”
