Marktown In Decay - East Chicago, Indiana

Created by Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw in 1917, this community was established industrialist Clayton Mark. It was a prepared community, center class, with the objective of giving cost-effective housing, retail and a school. Regrettably, market exploded in the location. Refineries, steel, chemical crops. The community is surrounded on all sides. Sq. blocks have been demolished, the retail cornerstone is deserted and crumbling (which is exactly where I shot these pictures.) Most of the properties are falling aside. Individuals family members that keep on being, generally Hispanic, are accomplishing their very best to maintain what they have. Hard, because substantially is deserted.

Many are townhouses – a person facet of the household is deserted, rotting, roof caved in, while on the other facet of the widespread wall, is a nicely maintained property. Sad, seriously.
