Land Rover HAS264X (first registered July 1982 – and possibly wrriten off in 1987 as unlicensed due to the fact then) thought on A82 in the vicinity of Fort William circa 1983.
These pictures ended up on slides offered to me a prolonged time back again, and which I I have only lately managed to “develop” thanks to the gift of an elederly scanner with slide/adverse capacity. They properly depict the ealry designs of Northern Constabulary vehicle livery.
NORTHERN CONSTABULARY Motor vehicle LIVERY
At the outset in Could 1975, at the generation of Northern Constabulary, there was no definitive livery set in respect t of the force’s marked vehicle fleet.
Period of time 1 (1975-1980) basic era (CC: Henderson)
Targeted traffic patrol autos, and – above time – several other autos most probable to patrol key roadways and/or go to incidents thereon, ended up fitted with a wide reflective orange stripe, edged with blue tape. Other GP (= General Goal) autos ended up basic white (or also in the case of some vans – blue, whether navy, royal or mild according to what ended up readily available for order). A white on blue plate, or blue reflective lettering (pink on rear) was applied to the front and rear of all autos. All marked autos experienced only a one blue rotating beacon at that time, unless twin-beacons came as part of a roof box.
Period of time two (1980-1995) roundel era (CC: Henderson/MacMillan)
In the course of 1979 Superintendent George Henderson developed a Power Badge, which was taken into use at the beginning of 1980. As properly as use as epaulette insignia and on official stationery, the circular design was printed in black on white reflective substance and applied to the driver’s and front passenger doorways of all marked autos in the Power. Targeted traffic and other “trunk road” autos continued to bear the orange stripe along their size. The first concern decal was of twelve inch diameter and was supposed to be sited correct in the centre of the door panel. As vehicle design advanced having said that , and door/wing protective strips grew to become part and parcel of autos, so it was located that the large door decal could no longer be fitted correctly devoid of cutting the design. Appropriately a revised model of the decal was developed, of 8 inch diameter, and would if vital be applied above the orange reflective stripe to make sure the decal was proud of the door protective strip.
Period of time 3 (1996-2005) blue stripe era (CC: Robertson/Latimer)
In get to generate a “corporate identity” for the drive, Main Constable Robertson commissioned a project to generate a new corporate livery. By this time the “twelve Sub Divisions and 3 Divisions” design experienced become obsolete (but was subsequently re-invented!) so the border of the Power Badge was no longer ideal – albeit the epaulette insignia was never transformed. This revamping concerned concentrating on the centrepiece of the badge – the St Andrews Cross with 4 Celtic knots, and utilizing that system inside of its circle, on a vertical blue stripe. The Power title in large lettering, and continued use of the bilingual motto (despite the fact that initially a corporate slogan was to substitute similar) appeared to its correct. This design was accompanied by a transform to yellow (bordered with blue) reflective stripe the size of the vehicle – with a ideal gap for exactly where the new emblem would appear. An experiment was subsequently tried, utilizing a silver-grey automobile but it was located that the emblem was woefully ineffective on a qualifications color other than white and the use of silver or grey autos for marked responsibility was not re-visited until finally “Battenberg” days. A couple of of the more mature autos which presently experienced orange stripe ended up rebadged with stripe left in situ, but all other autos like GP kinds ended up rapidly re-liveried, a go which went down properly with the rank-and-file. There can be tiny question that this livery was the smartest of any ever used in the Highlands and Islands.
Period of time 4 (2005 – 2013) Battenberg era (CC: Latimer/Graham)
The effects of the Household Workplace Scientific Branch study into Police vehicle visibility resulted in their 2004 Report: “High Conspicuity Livery for Police Autos. The report (14/04) carried on from earlier study which experienced viewed the “Battenberg” livery released from 1998 in an selection of British isles Police forces for Targeted traffic autos. The report located that the Battenberg design , getting a “diced band” two deep of alternating blue and yellow cubes, having up nearly the complete height of the vehicle’s aspect bodywork was the optimum design, and should really be adopted for road patrol autos. Half Battenberg (a single deep stripe of alternating blue and yellow along the size of the vehicle, with large blue lettering Police underneath) was recommended for GP autos. This proposal was approved by ACPO and ACPOS and in late 2005 Northern Constabulary commenced to undertake that type. Excising Highway Policing Device (formerly Targeted traffic) autos ended up right away re-liveried to Battenberg, although all new GP autos moving into the fleet from then on would be liveried as 50 percent Battenberg as part of their setting up. Present GP autos would continue to bear their existing livery and as a result the new livery would progressively be entirely released as a result of all-natural attrition. Power discover on the new livery would be taken care of by signifies of a much smaller sized model of the corporate emblem/title on the leading yellow dice on the driver and front passenger door.
In planning for the 2013 amalgamation of all Scottish Police forces into “Police Scotland”, the Power emblem/title was not applied to new GP autos from 2011 onwards, despite the fact that the URL of the Power internet site was shown in a transfer on the each rear aspect door pillars.
